Air and Humidity Meter HT62K
Air and Humidity Meter HT62K
4 in 1 meter measures air temperature, humidity, wet bulb and dew point. A must-own tool by any HVAC technician to understand how well an AC system is working. Mounting magnet and rubber clip allows the HT62K to be hung from almost anyplace for optional readings. Requires 2 AAA batteries, not included.
Almost pocket-sized, the meter is only 7" tall. Comfortable rubber grip gives it a quality look and feel. Rubber grip and rubber hook ensure you won't scratch surface when hanging from painted vent covers. Powerful magnet holds the meter tight to any metal surface.
Backlight on screen allows for easy reading. Screen will shut off in 30 minutes to save on batteries. The meter is accurate but the readings are not instant. Estimated 30-60 seconds to obtain a good reading. More expensive models aren't any different. New sensors are being introduced into the marketplace that will hopefully make future models respond quicker.
Troubleshooting Tips:
Marine air conditioners are working properly if the cool air coming out of the nearest duct is 15-20F degrees cooler than the room (return) temperature. If the temperature is less than 15F, the AC unit may be low on refrigerant. If more than 20F, the unit may have restricted airflow (ie dirty filter, blocked supply duct etc.) This inexpensive but capable meter can help determine that.
Many larger boats use fresh air makeup units (FAMU) to bring in fresh outside air. The FAMU systems condition the air using AC or electric heat. Humidity and temperature sensors dictate how the unit operates and owning a temperature/humidity meter is essential for troubleshooting their operation.
